Spawn

A general overview of Greater Spawn. While 'Portal Spawn' can refer to any creature from the alternate dimension, Greater Spawn are the large, intelligent creatures used for Player Characters. This applies to Portal Spawn, Re-Spawn, and the shifted form of ShiftSpawn.

— Long Ears, Full 360 Rotation
— Thin skin, double-coated fur, long mane and furred tail. Those that live in cooler climates may have shaggier coats overall, or additional long fur around the neck and down the chest.
— Natural tones, some bio-luminescent markings. Markings suspected for communication. Internals can occasionally reflect bio-luminescent coloring.
— Eyes placed on shoulders and hips, mostly vestigial and infrared sensing. Rarely eyes can be found elsewhere on the body, though usually in pairs.
— Posture is mostly quadrupedal with the ability to walk bipedally, though this is uncommon to do regularly.
— Climbers. Maneuverable. Endurance runners rather than sprinters.
— Unhinging jaw to swallow large prey. — Vocalizations are typically ultrasonic between Spawn, and can dip into infrasound to emit warnings. When communicating with humans, Portal Spawn may use sounds similar to that of a bobcat or bat. Re-Spawn may remember their original language, and can occasionally speak words and short phrases, though most structured speech is difficult or impossible.
-- They do not primarily use the vestigial eyes to see. While their use of their senses is relatively balanced, Spawn are heavily sound sensitive and utilize it freely. The further out from a city, the more they prefer to use echolocation. The closer to a city, infrared and scent become much more useful as the walls and general buzz of city life can mangle signals and make it difficult or annoying.
— Little discernable difference between sexes; both can lay eggs and produce genetic material for fertilization. Breeding appears to be cycle-based (whomever is in which cycle is the ‘carrier’ and vice versa). Females have pouches to carry the newly-hatched young, much like kangaroos.
